WhatsApp Voice Note to Text — Free Online Transcriber and Player
WhatsApp voice notes are convenient to send but inconvenient to consume. You can't search them, skim them, or reference them quickly. Our free online tool lets you play WhatsApp voice notes directly in your browser and transcribe them to text — without installing any software or uploading files to remote servers.
The Problem with WhatsApp Voice Notes
WhatsApp saves voice notes as .opus files — a format that many computers can't play natively. When you export a WhatsApp chat with media, you get a ZIP file containing these .opus files. Opening them requires installing codecs or media players. Our tool plays them directly in any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge all support .opus playback.
Features of Our WhatsApp Voice Note Tool
Playback speed controls (0.5x to 3x) let you slow down fast talkers or speed through long messages. The visual waveform shows you exactly where you are in the recording. Keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Space for play/pause, Ctrl+Arrow for seeking) let you control playback while typing your transcription. The built-in speech recognition (Chrome/Edge) can auto-transcribe while the audio plays.
How to Convert WhatsApp Voice Notes to Text
1. Export your WhatsApp chat: Open WhatsApp → tap ⋮ → More → Export Chat → With Media. This creates a ZIP file. 2. Extract the ZIP — you'll find .opus files for each voice note. 3. Go to our Voice Note to Text tool. 4. Upload the .opus file. 5. Play it and type along, or use auto-transcription in Chrome.
Privacy and Security
Your voice notes never leave your device. The audio file is loaded into your browser's memory and played locally. Even the speech recognition feature uses your browser's built-in engine — it doesn't send audio to our servers because we don't have servers. Everything is 100% client-side JavaScript.
